Magic the Gathering News

Magic 2011 Game Day is this Saturday, August 14th. Entry fee is $10 and starts at noon. The format is Standard. All players will receive an extended art Liliana's Specter just for participating. The top 8 players will receive a FOIL extended art Mitotic Slime in addition to other prizes. This format will be run swiss format with a cut to the top 8.
The Game Closet MTG Quarterly Championships will be held every three months at The Game Closet. Events on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will count toward the league.
The top two points earners from each month will qualify for the final event and the next 10 TOTAL points earners for that season will qualify for a total of 16 players. If a player finishes near the top more than once, they earn a a bye for each additional invite.
Points will be awarded as follows for each event: 6 points for first, 4 points for second, 2 points for third and fourth, and one point for everyone else for participation.
One dollar from every entry will go toward the final event. The Game Closet will match that amount in retail value to create the prize pool. So, the more participants throughout a season, the greater the prize.
Next Monday night is the first event!!!

Don't forget about D&D Encounters every wednesday. This is a good chance to play with new people and to learn some 4th Edition if you haven't had a chance.
Also, Saturday August 21st is D&D Games Day. This is a free event day. We'll start rolling about 12:00pm (noon). We'll likely be running a couple groups at a time. It's a first come, first serve deal, so get here as soon as you can. Usually, we run 3-5 groups throughout the day and each one takes about 2-3 hours.
We also got a couple new Reaper Ranger and Fighter models.

The Warhammer 40K League will begin on Sunday August 22nd. It will be an escalation league. It will run for 8 weeks with points escalating every two weeks (Week 1 - 500pts, Week 3- 700 pts, Week 5- 900 pts, Week 7 - 1200pts). Players will score 3 points for a win, 1 for a loss and 2 for a draw. You can't play the same player twice in a row.
Somwhere around week 4 we will be hosting a 1,200 points Warhammer Fantasy tournament. Details to come shortly.
